Nature inspires my designs

Welcome to my Ayabe website! My name is Bettina Schneider and I am the designer of Ayabe Jewelry.
Working with metal has been an incredibly joyful and wondrous discovery for me for the past decade. As a child, I was already full of imagination and creative energy, but I hadn’t yet found a medium to express it. When I was first introduced to working with metal, my creative side lid up so intensely, that I cannot imagine life without it!
My favorite metal to work with is sterling silver, but I also love copper and bronze. The fact that those metals can be melted, joined, hammered, folded, sculpted in so many different ways is incredibly exciting. There is no end in exploring new techniques in how to create beautiful objects with it.
In the past, I have been predominantly doing lost-wax-casting with sterling silver, but I recently discovered metal clay, which opens up even more possibilities in eternalizing textures and shapes found in nature, or creating abstract pieces of art in one or in a combination of several metals. Some of my metal clay creations, I will also cast in sterling silver.
I am excited and fascinated by the multitude of shapes and textures that are created by nature. Sometimes symmetric, other times random, captivatingly complex or surprisingly simple – they all arouse my creative brain. My walks and hikes through the Californian landscape inspire me and I am always scanning the ground, trees, and trenches for interesting specimens that I want to see eternalized, abstracted or reinvented in silver. Inspired by these, I try to create pieces that embody hints of these forms, textures, and moods.
Some of my pieces are one-of-a-kind pieces; others consist of limited production pieces. In my designs I also use semi-precious stones, which enhance and support my creations. Overall, I aim to produce pieces that people can connect with, wear, and enjoy on a daily basis.
